TRAVEL TIPS

Timing

It will take at least half a day to do justice to the many worthwhile sights in Castello, since they are scattered throughout the largest sestiere in Venice, and much time will be enjoyably spent walking through colorful neighborhoods to reach them. Schedule at least a half hour to see the Carpaccios at the Scuola di San Giorgio, and an hour for the interior of Santi Giovanni e Paolo and the adjacent campo. The Querini Stampalia museum will take an hour, and the churches of San Zaccaria and San Francesco della Vigna at least a half hour each. You will not want to miss a glance at the beautiful Renaissance entry to the Arsenale. If the Biennale dell’Arte is running while you’re in Venice, you’ll want to visit its main exhibition areas, which are in Castello; visiting the Biennale should take the better part of a day itself.
